In That Which Lies Between, the young architect Tain embarks on an exciting story about love, fear, pleasure, freedom and belonging.

A few months after arriving in Sydney, she receives a book from a stranger. The book is an invitation to a mysterious party turns out to be the key to an adventure of romance and liberation. With only a mask and a ring, she enters a hidden world in beautiful warehouses and hotels around the city. There, she meets a masked man who becomes her partner on the journey of discovering her own desire.

Without knowing his face or his name, and with no prospect of a future together, Tain finds herself torn between the purity and intensity of her relationship with him and her loyalty and respect for her long-term boyfriend. Little by little, she realises that evil is not always hidden in the shadows. Lies can be disguised as gifts and compliments.

The racism and abusive partner is not the main focus but is apart of the novel and makes it understandable as to why the main character falls into the secret society, to get away from her life, even for small moments."
