Description

Morris Lukowich played with his childhood heroes Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull, helped lead the Winnipeg Jets to the AVCO Cup, and then became an NHL captain a couple of years later. But after this distinguished career on the ice, his transformation to life after hockey was fraught with PTSD, financial troubles, and thoughts about suicide. Unlike many players who reach such depths, Lukowich was able to pull himself out of it.

About the Author

Morris Lukowich played in the NHL for eight seasons with the Boston Bruins, the Los Angeles Kings, and the Winnipeg Jets. After his professional career he experienced a number of difficulties adjusting to a more normal life and worked with sports journalist Geoff Kirbyson to share his story. Morris lives in Calgary, Alberta with his family. Geoff Kirbyson has been a journalist for more than 25 years, spending much of his career at the Winnipeg Free Press covering business and sports. He has written two books on the original Winnipeg Jets, The Hot Line and Broken Ribs & Popcorn. He is a stay-at-home defenseman with the Sofa Kings in a Winnipeg beer league.
