Description

The Carrie pattern is a doll size reproduction of the dress that Carrie Ingalls wore in a photograph that was taken of her and her sisters around 1880, the year so vividly recorded in Laura Ingalls' book "The Long Winter". This pattern book includes a brief history that give the historical context for the dress featured, fully illustrated detailed instructions, and pattern pieces for a double-breasted princess-line dress, underskirt, and petticoat in THREE popular doll sizes. Pattern pieces are designed to fit 18-inch, 16-inch, and 14.5-inch dolls such as American Girl(R), A Girl for All Time(R), and WellieWishers(TM). Thimbles and Acorns Wear and When pattern series uses doll-sized historical clothing patterns to explore world history from a unique perspective. Small scale designs make it easy to recreate historical clothing using both modern and traditional sewing techniques. Completed clothing can be used for play or display to further the learning experience. Discover how and why different clothing styles developed. Dabble in traditional sewing techniques. Learn about the people and events that inspired fashion trends. See how even the most ancient clothing styles are still influencing what we wear today.

About the Author

Born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota, Shari Fuller first picked up a needle and thread to mend a doll dress when she was only 3-years-old. From that time on, she was fascinated with sewing. When she was eight-years-old, she spent a winter at her grandparents house where her grandmother gave her sewing lessons and her grandfather gave her a set of Little House on the Prairie books. Shari's first sewing project was a rag doll modeled after Laura Ingalls' doll, Charlotte. Sewing not only helped Shari build a special bond with both of her grandparents, but also gave her a deeper desire to learn. Math began to make more sense as she learned to measure, cut, and turn odd shaped flat pattern pieces into interesting three dimensional designs. History became more exciting as she became captivated by the dynamic fashions through the ages. This is the foundation that her Thimbles and Acorns brand is built on; building relationships and encouraging learning.
