Description
The Theory of Oliver / Price of Happiness is a self-established work of modern-day philosophy with the scene set on the basis of conversations that describe the main character's pattern of thinking as it relays back to the premise, or, the reason for the book itself. This work of psychological fiction pulls you into the world of Shae, the main character, as we see her in the stages of acceptance for her loss. As well as the understanding of and/or her fixed state of catatonia. While with the slow burn of realization for the truth that she's presented with we see a new perspective of grief.
The Theory of Oliver is for the purposes of this book something of fiction the main character has being working on for her own leisure, as opposed to the purposes of her work as a college professor. Though the theory itself is named relative to the person the book was inspired by.
The author's idea came from an interview with "Oli" from Soft White Underbelly. Though the author does not know the interviewee personally, they were inspired to create something that would be a literary expression of what was felt watching Oli on screen for the first time.
